This is what we work for

DigitalPause is a new community for people concerned about children's screen use. The goal is to become the leading knowledge center that collects articles, insights and knowledge about the consequences of children's digital consumption - from Denmark, EU and overseas.

Today, we know worryingly little about the real learning value for children aged 3-10 when they learn digitally rather than analoge. What are the effects of too many screens, phones and social media and what they mean for our children's healthy and creative development? Yet, in Denmark, we are making big and intrusive decisions to roll out digital learning right down to the very youngest age groups. On too thin a knowledge base and with far too little evidence, drastically intrusive digital decisions are being made on behalf of children in Denmark. Where is the professionalism? Research shows that too much screen use is harmful to young children, so why should they be exposed to it in day care institutions, in small school classes and in school after-school programs?

Too few are pausing digital developments and asking why? What are the consequences and effects on our children? Too few organizations, experts and politicians are responding to the need for knowledge and responsible policy development. Instead, in the last few years, more and more investments and policies on digital offerings are now going all the way down to the nursery age. These developments have happened without much knowledge, research and broad debate.

This concern and anxiety is shared by a lot of parents, relatives, young people, sports clubs, etc. We all want a new direction. Digital Pause speaks for a large group of people who are concerned about digital developments, but who currently have no organization to turn to that can address their concerns and do something about it. Research shows that using screens can be directly harmful, especially for young children.

DigitalPause is here to help. DigitalPause is a knowledge universe for anyone who wants more information - both professionals and families. It is also a community where we share experiences, concerns, knowledge and good initiatives.

The goal of DigitalPause is to become a large popular movement that creates the necessary, and until now missing, debate on WHY we as a society expose young children to screens and digital curricula already from kindergarten.

We are building up a professional network of researchers, teachers, educators, IT behavioral scientists, etc. who have knowledge about the effects of too much screens, phones and social media and what they mean for our children's healthy and creative development and learning.

Digital Pause does not believe that municipalities should equip nurseries with screens for children. Schools should also reconsider whether digital learning tools are necessary in the first three years of school.

The ultimate goal is to achieve a much more responsible, evidence-based and restrictive policy for digital provision in childhood education and care across Europe..
